HEART FAILURE - Mechanical baroreceptor stimulation
Operator: Horst Sievert, CVC Frankfurt, Germany
This is a new way to treat heart failure!
Like with the electrical baroreceptor stimulation we are stimulating the carotid baroreceptors which decreases the sympathotonic and increases the parasympathotonic tone. This has been shown to be effective in hypertension as well as in heart failure. For the mechanical baroreceptor stimulation, we do not need a pacing device which requires a new battery every 3 or 4 years.
Initial results are very encouraging!
